Mørkeromskurs 307 - Cuprotype

  • CYAN mørkerom 32 Trondheimsveien Oslo, 0560 Norway (map)

This workshop dives into the process of creating your own handmade light sensitive emulsion from iron and copper. During the session we will share variations on the process to produce prints with a range of colours across yellow / tan, red / copper and blue. The emulsion can be printed in a similar way to a cyanotype, but with slower exposure times and many variations and opportunities for experimentation in the process.

The workshop instructors are visiting CYAN darkroom in Oslo, after teaching a class in Gothenburg and giving a talk at Oslo Fotokunstskole.

Darkroom 307 - Cuprotype
Learn the possibilities of working with emulsions made from copper and iron. The Cuprotype is a process rooted in the history of early photographic experimentation - but brought alive by contemporary practitioners. There are many variations and opportunities for experimentation in the process, which we will explore during this workshop.
The process has many similarities to the well known cyanotype, but the specifies of the copper in the chemistry make it quite different to work with and allow opportunities for a range of colours in the resulting prints
