Nordic Analog Network
The Nordic Analog Network is in the process of connecting Nordic community darkroom to share experience and knowledge across the region.
In a series of artist residencies set up as darkroom exchanges the Nordic darkrooms will invite analog photo artists to come and work in professional darkrooms. The two community darkrooms of Helsinki/Finland and Oslo/Norway join together this year for a first darkroom exchange with an open call for all Finnish and Norvegian artists or artists living in Finland or Norway, working with black and white darkroom techniques, or alternative techniques suitable for B&W darkroom.
The goal is to share experience, create contacts and open up for networking between analog photo artists in the Nordic countries.
Nordic Analog Network – Artist residency
Darkroom exchange: Helsinki/Oslo
-Open for any photo artist living in one of the two countries Finland/Norway.
The application and residency assumes the guest artist will be working with black and white darkroom techniques, or alternative techniques suitable for B&W darkroom.

Invited artists get a letter of recommendation to apply for further funding.
-Free time to work.
During their stay the invited photographers are free to work with whatever project they want. They are asked to leave one finished print with the host darkroom.
-Possibility of public event and networking.
The host darkroom can help to set up a public event for the guest artist, like a public presentation, short exhibition or workshop or assist with gallery contacts and networking opportunities.

Based on the applications each darkroom will decide who they want to invite for the guest stay and work out the details of dates and program with the invited artist directly.

The Helsinki “Mörk” Darkroom is a community darkroom with 100 members.
Mörk is a fully equipped, professional black and white darkroom built and maintained by the Finnish Darkroom Association. It is located in The Finnish Artists' Studio Foundation's Vallila Studio Centre in Helsinki with easy access by bus or tram from the centre. Mörk comprises about 70 square meters and includes, in addition to the darkroom, a lit room with a small kitchen, table spaces and shelves for storage, as well as drying racks for prints, a fume hood and a photo press. The darkroom has comprehensive equipment for even the most demanding printing needs with sizes of enlarges from 35mm to 8”x10”. Two of the enlargers (both up to 4×5 “) are in separate booths where the processing of more demanding negatives can be done in peace. The artist residency will be 3 weeks during 6th-27th of Octoberl 2022.Accomodation for the invited artist will be at the Villa Eläintarha an international artist residency centre in a wooden villa in the centre of Helsinki, next to Töölönlahti bay.
The Oslo “CYAN” Darkroom is a community darkroom with 40 members.
CYAN darkroom is a 70m2 shopfront worksspace near the botanical gardens in Oslo with easy access by bus or tram from the centre. The darkroom houses 6 b&w enlargers ranging from 35mm to 8”x10”. Outside the darkroom is a lightroom with workspace that includes a dry mounting press, paper cutter and matt cutter. With street level windows the workspace also has a small area set up as a showroom to exhibit members' works. CYAN also has a photostudio that can be used as a space for meetups, artist talks and presentations as well as a small show or exhibition. CYAN has a network that reaches out to the rest of the photography community in Oslo and Norway and can offer the invited artist to an opportunity to do a public presentation, final show or other activity. The period for the artist residency will be 2-3 weeks during October-November of 2022.Accomodation for the invited artist will be at the guest apartment of the Norwegian Association of Art Photographers, next to the Photographers gallery in the centre of town.
