In May the CYAN darkroom member was invite for an artist residency at the Filmverkstaden darkroom in Vasaa, Finland. The residency was part of the Nordic Analog Network residency program the Darkroom Exchange.
Taylor Smith was invited to Filmverkstaden in Finland/Vasaain May.
During her stay Taylor worked on her analog film project started at an earlier residency in Norway. She uses motion film as a raw material, both filming landcapes and scenes, freezing slides, letting the film be eaten by fungi and bacteria and experiencing the subject matter of nature directly. At Filmverkstaden she got the opportunity to work with specialized equipment for copying and printing analog motion film and development.
Filmverkstaden is a centre of knowledge, inspiration and opportunity for analogue film and photography. As an independent artist-run film and photography lab they aim to improve the opportunities for artists to work with independent audio-visual arts while raising interest for audio-visual art in general. Filmverkstaden provides working facilities, such as a fully equipped and functioning darkroom, specialised master classes and workshops, film screenings, interesting events and projects.
Taylor Alaina Libenstein Smith (b. 1993, USA-FR) is a visual artist and researcher based in Oslo.
