Nordic Analog Network is a collaboration between open darkrooms in all the Nordic countries. There are currently 10 darkrooms connected through the network and a program of artist residencies organized as an exchange program across the Nordic region.
The goal is to facilitate a sharing of contacts and experience between photographers working with analogue processes.
All together the Nordic Analog Network will be inviting 11 photographers to take part in their series of artist residencies this year.
CYAN darkroom is happy to announce that we are inviting Erik Gustafsson from Gothenburg, Sweden.
Erik Gustafsson will visit Oslo and be working at our darkroom April 16th to May 7th.
He works with analog photography looking at questions relating to the essence of the medium beyond documentary narratives. Revisiting its intrinsic elements, such as surface, depth, material, and the possibility to experience time and space on a flat surface. Creating photographs both with and without the use of a camera, the combination of depicting and creating makes for abstract pictures where the images both resists and allows for new definitions.
During his time at the residency he is planning to deveop an ongoing series of Luminograms. These are original imprints created by rays of light, exposed directly onto light-sensitive paper in the darkroom. The result is an abstract image, a photograph without reference to anything but itself, and its coming into being. The Luminogram process is about as fundamental as photography gets; as such the works raise questions about the nature of the photograph and how it can be made through various methods and processes.
We will host an open “Meet the artist” meeting at the CYAN darkroom 17.april kl 17-19
During his stay in Oslo Erik Gustafsson is also exhibiting at Gallery Melk 5. - 28. April
