The pilot Open Call of the Nordic Analog Network darkroom exchange is juried!

Nordic Analog Network – darkroom exchange
The two open darkrooms “Mörk” in Helsinki/Finland and “CYAN” in Oslo/Norge are organizing an artist exchange as an open call where photographers working with analog processes can apply for an artist residency at the darkroom in the other country.
The goal is to facilitate a sharing of contact and experience between photographers working with analogue processes.

We received an impressive high level of work in the applications and the hard work of jurying is now done.

CYAN darkroom is happy to announce that we want to invite Paula Humberg from Sipoo outside of Helsinki. Her practice journeys between art and biology, collaborative projects combining art and science and a mix of analog and digital techniques. Humberg sometimes uses pinhole photography, cameraless imaging techniques, and unconventional light sources. Her works have been shown at the Finnish Museum of Photography as well as at photographic centres and galleries.
In Oslo she is planning to continue work on a collaborative project she is doing with American poet Joshua Bird focusing on landscape and astronomically inspired imagery.

Mörk darkroom is excited to invite Julie Karine Schie Olsen from Sofiemyr outside of Oslo. She mainly works within the mediums photography and text. She is influenced by science fiction and the genres potential to create alternate realities. Working with analogue photographic processes is a big part of her practice and is used as a tool to build up new logics within her projects. She recently finished her MA in FineArt at the Academy in Bergen Norway.
In Helsinki she wants to work with a series that will centre on an idea of fictional places. Photographing miniature models and scenographies to create these places she will focus on exploring ideas on how to print, while attempting to also make new photos to further develop the series.

Even though the jurying was done separately in each country we are amazed at how we seem to have chosen two photoartists working within the same kind of mindset and style, even though they also use very different approaches.
During the residency the photographers will get to experience the work practices in another community darkroom as well as the art scene in a Nordic capital. In Helsinki the photographer will live in the Helsinki international art residency and in Oslo the Federation of Photoartist´s guest appartment is made available for the visitor.
We are excited to see what they end up producing during the stay and in the continued work afterwards!

The program is supported by Norwegian Finnish Culture Fund , and organized in collaboration with FFF and HIAP.
